North Korea interested in gambling

A cold war between two halves of the same country, spanning 50 years has been hard on both countries for an economic, social, and psychological viewpoint. Apparently, the South suspects the North of offering gambling services to their gambling aficionados.

A recent article published by the Dong-A Libo newspaper seems to confirm South Korea’s suspicions. The newspaper reported the finding of a secret gambling program under the name “Poker game server” and with the “175.45.178…” IP address.

Experts say that the IP address actually belongs to the North Korean intelligence bureau. This organization has been accused in the past by the South to be launching cyber-attacks against them. KBS, MBC and YTN, all South Korean networks, have supposedly been paralyzed in the past due to the actions of this secret bureau. The computer networks crashed and were up and running after a painstaking clean-up process.

Three banks also reported experiencing suspicious network problems in March of 2013. The mentioned gambling program has been active until recently, starting with 2013. Whether or not North Korea was indeed behind this gambling endeavor is yet to be proven, but the fact is that the site was in the Korean language, was able to take in credit card information as well as other player data.

The newspaper continued stating that for the past two years multiple gambling sites from the North have been targeting South Korean players.
