All the people that frequent Roulette tables dream of that one moment where they drop a single chip on the right spot and end up making a fortune when the ball finally lands. Of course this happens and when it does it is magic for everyone involved. Here are some interesting facts and stories surrounding this popular table game.
The biggest single win
Let’s say for example that you go into a casino with $5 on you. You want to drop it all on red at the roulette table so that if you win you will get $10. If it doesn’t, who cares, it’s just 5 measly dollars. Well Ashley Revell took it to the next level. He gathered up all his life savings and decided he would make one single bet with it at the Roulette table. That amount was $135,300 and he put it all on red. Amazingly enough he won and ended up doubling his life savings to the tone of $270,600.
A great night
Some people can sometimes have amazing nights at the Roulette table. They will go in with a couple hundred bucks and end up leaving the casino with thousands in their pockets. In 2005, a British retail tycoon named Philip Green ended up winning around £2 million while playing Roulette inside of a London casino. The win was so huge that the casino he was in saw their profits drop significantly all due to his incredible win.
The biggest Roulette scammers
You’re probably well aware that nowadays casinos have an eye on everything going on in their establishment. They have cameras everywhere which are there to stop cheaters. But that was no obstacle for Francis Farrugia and two of his buddies who cheated casinos all around the world. They would use a “top hatting” system by distracting the croupiers and dropping a high-value chip on a winning number. They did this for over 20 years but were finally arrested when the surveillance systems in London caught on to them.
The best Roulette bet
Roulette is actually not a very hard game to win at. This is mostly due to the fact that there are a lot of bets you can make which almost have a 50% shot at winning. Your typical American Roulette wheel has 38 numbers. 36 of these numbers are split between red and black. This means that you can bet on 18 numbers at once out of the total of 38. What this means is that your odds against winning are 1.111 to 1, which is obviously the house edge in effect.
The worst Roulette bet
The fewer numbers that you include in your bet, the lower your odds are of winning. If you drop a single chip on one number you have odds of 37 to 1 against you winning. The upside is that if you hit that particular number you will get a payout of 35 to 1.
